Background

There are 323 million people worldwide using dating apps, and nearly 50% of U.S. adults say dating has gotten harder in the last 10 years. Among those who are in the dating market, most say they are dissatisfied with their dating lives and that it has been difficult to find people to date, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in October 2019.

EMPATHIZE

Modern online dating is stressful for singles and often makes finding the right partner overwhelming due to the large dating pool.

DEFINE

The majority of users feel their most compatible options do not align with their values and needs in a partner.

PROTOTYPE

While building out wireframes, I studied several different dating apps including Tinder, Bumble, The League, and Match.

Hinge’s mission that sets it apart from other dating apps is “We want anyone looking for love to be able to find it.”

During the onboarding phase, the user would complete a short personality test. This would allow Hinge to have a better understanding of which traits the user is looking for in a partner and compile a more accurate “Compatible” tab.

Interactive Prototype

IDEATE

Introduce a personality assessment within the app (via onboarding, Hinge+, dating preferences). Complete a short survey to give Hinge a better understanding of the personality traits, values, and appearance you’re looking for in a partner.

Hinge can pull keywords from a user’s profile prompts, about me details, and utilize facial recognition (which they already use to verify profiles) to compile a more accurate compatibility tab.
